Groupon. Really? Ad execution was the problem? 2 seconds could have fixed it.
First, my apologies to LivingSocial, who I've been picking on for simple visual messaging errors in their marketing. But Groupon. Wow. That was a pretty weak excuse you dunked yourself into the bowl of not so super. If you used 2 seconds to pay off these expensive and tasteless ads with "We're donating a portion of every Groupon you buy to Greenpeace". You would have come out smelling better. Be honest, your site made no mention of your concern for these issues, that is part of your backtracking and clean up effort. Its pretty transparent. Call me!
